Review: Ever After Disney Treasures Exclusive Funko Box

Review: Ever After Disney Treasures Exclusive Funko Box

If you’re a collector of anything in the pop culture world, chances are you’ve heard of Funko’s subscription boxes. But what’s the big deal, anyway?

The sub boxes began back in 2015 with the launch of the Marvel Collector Corps for Avengers: Age of Ultron and Star Wars: Smuggler’s Bounty for The Force Awakens. The next two launches were the first Funko LoC box in 2016 with DC: Legion of Collectors for Batman vs. Superman, and the first Disney Treasures box with ‘Pirate Cove’ in 2017.

What really draws collectors in about these boxes is their rarity. No, we don’t mean that they’re impossible to find— although sometimes, it really does feel like pulling teeth trying to find a decent price and release date. It is the rarity of the actual items inside, however, which has led to so much positive attention.

For the first time, Funko fans (and fans of pop culture and Pop! Vinyls alike) were able to purchase 100% exclusive products that weren’t available anywhere else on a regular, subscription-based schedule. Most of the items in these boxes still aren’t available on their own at retail!

If you’re a funatic (and haven’t been living under a rock), then you’ve no doubt heard that Funko have discontinued their subscription boxes. They announced around February 2018 that ‘Adventures’ would be the last Disney sub box, making ‘Ever After’ the second last.

The boxes haven’t disappeared completely, however: they’re now available with specific retailers, rather than just to subscribed customers. This is great news for us Aussie funatics, as it means a massive increase in the availability of these exclusive products! That being said, sometimes you just can’t fault a good exclusive, and Funko haven’t held back at all with Ever After, one of their last ‘subscription’ boxes ever!

Let’s get into the contents of the Ever After box! Here’s what goodies are packed inside:

⦁              Eric and Ariel Exclusive Pop! Vinyl 2-pack
⦁              Lady and the Tramp Pop! Keychains
⦁              Minnie Mouse Mystery Mini and Collectible Tin
⦁              Official Disney Pin featuring Daisy and Donald
⦁              Patch featuring Lumiere from Beauty and the Beast

You can argue that all Disney fans have a bit of a romantic streak in us by definition, and this box was perfect for that inner sap! I’ll definitely be adding the pocket Pop! Keychains to my car keys (like they’re not getting absurdly crowded as it is) or, alternatively, setting them up with a spaghetti candlelit dinner for those impromptu Pop! Photoshoots. (I have a life, I swear.)

The patch and the pin are classic and timeless, too, and it was great to see the amount of detail that went into these. Lumiere is the prototypical Disney romantic ideal, so I wasn’t surprised to find him in this box! Daisy and Donald, as well, are one of the much loved OG pairings when it comes to us Disney nerds. I think this is one we’ll all be torn up about for all the right reasons! I’m tempted to keep it in its original packaging, but it’s just one of those things that you know will look fantastic on a backpack or a denim jacket, too. Help, I’m running out of room!

Hands down the best part of this box has to be the 2-pack. The Eric and Ariel 2-pack features a romantic rendition of the couple in their wedding ensembles. The moulds are classic and the designs are flawless. I especially cannot get over how movie-accurate Ariel’s wedding dress looks! Something about it is very nostalgic: I distinctly remember owning a paper doll of Ariel around the time of the movie’s popularity and obsessively dressing and undressing her into the 2D rendition of this big, poofy gown… it’s just one of those ageless Disney classics that can’t be faulted for the period of its release and still carries well into today’s princess aesthetic.

I, of course, can’t speak on behalf of all Disney fans, but I think it’s safe to say that this one was a winner! It has been such an awesome past year for the Disney princess revivals; it’s great to see that we’re moving away from old design habits and introducing new elements like the diamond glitter range and the much-appreciated re-releases of some classic favourites like what we’ve seen this year with Aladdin and Hercules. Here’s hoping to see a little more of this in future Disney boxes!

Overall, the Ever After box gets a solid 4 stars from me. Even the packaging on this one is a winner! If you haven’t gotten your hands on one yet, there are still a few left here. They’re on sale at the moment for $60, so make sure you get your hands on one before they’re gone forever after!

What did you think of this box? And what is your inner Disney nerd hoping for from future releases? We love hearing your thoughts, so let us know in the comments!

Happy collecting, everyone.
